About the Choir

The choir having a major role both in the town and country’s cultural life was founded in 1961 with the original name: Teachers’s Choir of Kecskemét. In addition to its active participation in the Kecskemét Spring Festival, in the concerts at All Souls’ Day and the Kodály anniversary in December it gives concerts for the benefit of schools and others in need. The choir has already sung in the major concert halls of the country, in the Music Academy, in the "Vigadó" and the Mathias Church in Buda. It has represented the very essence of the Hungarian Choir Culture in almost all of the countries of Europe.
The repertory of the choir contains all the choir compositions of all the musiceal eras, more than 100 choral works and 30 oratorios, cantatas and oratoric works have been sung on concerts.
The choir was awarded the Concert Choir Summa Cum Laude classification in 2003.
Ever since the foundation of the choir it has been conducted by such noted conductors like Mr József Ádám, Mr János Vörös, Mr Péter Erdei. During the 30 year long era of Mr Péter Erdei the choir had become one of the leading amateur choirs in Hungary. It had performed several works of contemporary Hungarian composers, what’s more several Hungarian premiéres of foreign works as well. Mr János Laczkó has been the choirmaster of the choir since 2005.
